LA POMPE SOHIER

Extracts from JERSEY EVENING POST, Under the Clock (Date unknown). Miss C. Le Sauteur, of 18 West Park Avenue, whose grandfather, the late Mr. Édouard Le Sauteur, of St.Martin, married Miss Jane Sohier, eldest sister of Mr William Davies Sohier, of Boston U.S.A. has shown me a beautifully-bound genealogy of La Famille Sohier de Vermandois, tracing its decent from the time of Othon, sixth Comte de Vermandois, and descendant of Charlemagne. Also in Miss Le Sauteur's possession is a Beautiful silver cup inscribed "Presented by Wm. D Sohier, Esq, of Massachusetts, United States, to Thos Sohier jnr of St. Martin's, Jersey, Europe, 3rd September, 1850". This Thomas Sohier in turn gave the jug to Miss Le Sauteur's grandmother. I am also told that, apart from the well known Mont Sohier leading down to St.Brelade's Bay, there is at least another Island place name connected with the family. This is La Pompe Sohier, at the corner La Chasse, St. Martin, the actual pump itself being alongside the old arch of La Fesnaie.
